In the Avalon and pagan tradition, the Winter Solstice is the moment of rest and of Nature's apparent death — which already holds within itself the seed of rebirth and the return of the light. This is the longest night of the year: after it, the sun begins its ascent once more.

We pause. We take refuge. We restore ourselves in the long winter night. In sleeping, we dream. We weave the dreams and visions for our coming Spring.
